The Million Crane project is a student-driven effort to collect a million paper cranes in the U.S., in order to raise awareness of the disaster and show support for Japan. They succeeded in collecting 205,008 cranes from various organizations and individuals, which were sent to Sendai in time for the 2011 Tanabata festival.
