Jared Mehtala Testimonial

Item Description
My name is Jared Mehtala and I am writing a testimonial based off of the research I have done for my Environmental Class. My perspective of the disaster is that it could have been easily prevented by simply adding the appropriate security measures that should have been in place since the plant was being built. The most interesting thing I have learned from this is that there is a lot more damage on a more emotional and personal level than what is shown by the media and the government. I am still questioning the reasoning behind the lack of protection of the plant, lack of media coverage and the false information that is constantly being fed to the Japanese population by TEMPCO and the Japanese government. From this experience, I will take away the knowledge that those effected by natural disasters do not only deal with losing their homes, friends, and families, but also have to deal with their own mental deterioration. Society can learn from these disasters that you must prepare for every worst case scenario, to ensure the safety of others and to protect the environment.
